Remember the days when pop ups on your computer were really annoying. Today’s floating ads aren’t as annoying and as easy to close as clicking the x in the ad to completely remove. If you’re still being bothered with annoying pop ups, there are things you can do to rid yourself of these annoyances.
1. Upgrade your web browser – If you’re running an older browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer 5, its time to get a different browser. Older browsers aren’t equipped, nor do they provide the protection, to put a halt to annoying pop ups. Firefox is highly recommended but Internet Explorer, if it’s the newest version, should work just fine.
2. You might need to rid your computer from adware and spyware – Over time computers tend to get bogged down with a lot of junk. Defragmenting your computer is a good idea but too much spyware on your system can be a reason you’re seeing pop ups all the time. Having the proper adware installed on your computer can go a long way towards reducing pop ups.
3. Install antivirus software – Sometimes the pop ups you see are a result of a virus your computer has that you probably didn’t even know about. Avast is a highly recommended antivirus software that runs seamlessly with your machine, protects against viruses and prevents most pop ups. The best part is it’s free. Internet sites suggest Avast runs in conjunction with your system better than most antivirus software.
4. Toolbars – If all else fails, search engines do offer pop up fighting toolbars that help you get rid of pop ups. Don’t hitch your wagon to a company that you don’t recognize. In many cases the offers could create more pop ups.
A good rule of thumb is to try to avoid being click happy. A good number of problems are caused by people clicking on something before they realize what it is.
